‘Diesel Bug,’ black slime or whatever your name for it, Microbial contamination can be, and is a serious issue. Reduced levels of sulphur and increasing Bio content is leading to more cases of rapidly worn injectors, frequent filter changing and other issues. Compliant to ASTM D 8070, FUELSTAT®Diesel Plus keeps operational assets safe by rapidly detecting Microbial growth. With just a fuel sample, a flat, dry surface, a FUELSTAT® test kit and 15 minutes, you will have a result; right here, right now and not in several days’ time. Test Aviation fuel on crew transfer helicopters with FUELSTAT®Resinae.
In addition FUELSTAT®Result is a simple, FREE Mobile Phone App used with the FUELSTAT®test kits, to provide the test results to your smartphone whilst generating a report to be viewed by certain registered users within YOUR organisation, providing a rapid, front to back and totally traceable audit trail within minutes.
About microbial fuel contamination - Microorganisms can enter the fuel chain at any stage. They live in the water phase and feed off fuel. By-products include biomass, sludge and acid corrosion. Prolonged, heavy contamination is an expensive issue. The effects can be devastating for plant, vehicles, aircraft and storage tanks as contamination can cause fuel pipeline blockage or corrosion. This leads to expensive mechanical intervention and significant downtime to clean fuel tanks and ancillary equipment. Detecting and dealing with this potential problem by testing early is the efficient, cost-effective answer to managing the risk of damage from microbial contamination. There are a number of proprietary tests on the market to determine the presence of microbial contamination, but many are laboratory-based tests or rely on culture growth and are therefore time- consuming. FUELSTAT® would appear to be the most simple to use test available on the international market. No special skills are required to use the test, and there is no investment needed for a reader to translate the results.

Gateway to the North SeaMontrose Port is strategically located as a North Sea service and support hub for the offshore energy and commercial cargo sectors. Montrose Port Authority (MPA) has invested around £21m in the port since 2011, including major upgrades to quays on North and South sides if the harbour. This resulted in a significant increase in Port traffic in recent years, attached by excellent facilities and customer service. The port offers around 1,000m of quayside, including deep-water berths and heavy lifting pads on both the North and South Quays that are complemented by a full range of logistical and support services. FAST-ACT® is a proprietary formulation of non-toxic high-performance speciality materials effective at neutralising a wide range of toxic chemicals with the added capability to destroy chemical warfare agents. The FAST-ACT formulation is non-flammable, non-corrosive, and significantly reduces both liquid and vapour hazards. Since the dry powder neutralises threats upon contact, on-site incident management and clean up times are reduced.
FAST-ACT® works quickly to significantly reduce hazards associated with common industrial chemicals including: acids, acidic/caustic gases, organic compounds, phosphorus and sulphur compounds, and many industrial solvents. By the nature of FAST-ACT’s innovative chemistry, hazards are chemically bound to the surface of the powder minimising off-gassing.
FAST-ACT® is offered in pressurised cylinders capable of addressing both liquid and vapour hazards, manually dispersed containers, kits for liquid hazard treatment, and mitts for equipment and small-scale decontamination. FAST-ACT can be safely applied to any liquid spill or vapour release enabling Emergency Responders to utilise one technology when faced with a wide variety of known or unknown chemical hazards.

From our beginnings in an Oslo laboratory as part of Det Norske Veritas (DNV), VPS has evolved into the largest bunker fuel testing company for ship operators in the world. Along our journey we have acquired the expertise to test oils of all types, for both marine and non-marine customers. In VPS we lead through innovation and in partnership with our customers we continue to evolve our testing methods, technologies and advisory services. Our innovative thinking will keep your business on the right side of change.
Based upon our 40 years of experience in testing oil of all types, we provide innovative, advisory services to the Marine, Power, Renewables and Industrial markets. We are at the forefront in providing testing and advisory services to support our clients’ goals of achieving sustainable operations, asset protection, preventative maintenance, plus environmental and legislative compliance.
Our Main Services: -
Marine Fuel Delivery Measurement via Bunker Quantity Survey
Oil Condition Monitoring -Lube and hydraulic/gear oil testing
Transformer Oil Testing - Power & Distribution
As the world’s leading fuel testing company, testing to ISO8217, with full ISO17025 accreditation, we have also innovatively developed, many proprietary additional tests which provide further fuel quality information, both pre-burn and post-burn, to further support our customers’ asset protection, human health and environmental compliance. As fuels continue to develop in order to achieve carbon-neutral/carbon-free status, we are committed to further innovative projects to provide testing and advisory solutions.
Bunker Quantity Surveys (BQS)
We pioneered impartial and independent Bunker Quantity Survey (BQS) services in 1987 and have since completed more than 140,000 BQS worldwide. Marine Bunkers are typically the largest contributor to the operational cost of a ship. As neither the buyer nor the seller are present to witness the quantity transfer and sampling procedures onboard, employing an independent surveyor can be key in avoiding quantity shortages, or sampling disputes. We were the first company to implement a worldwide Code of Practice for Bunker Surveying with continuing regular on-the-job quality assurance audits to ensure the highest level of integrity and service performance.
We provide asset protection through our Oil Condition Monitoring service by helping customers achieve maximum machinery and lubricant efficiency. This also protects the environment by ensuring efficient engine operation reducing GHG emissions. Through enhanced reliability users benefit from reduced operational and maintenance costs, improved equipment uptime, can drive maximum productivity from the machinery and its lubricant. It is a proven loss prevention technique that can form a key part of any condition-based predictive maintenance programme. Scheduled testing of lubricating oil provides information on the condition of the equipment, detecting contamination, giving an early warning system enabling the operator to act, avoiding costly maintenance and lost productivity.
Transformer Oil Testing (TOT)
Our TOT aims to prevent transformer failure ensuring consistent electricity supply for network providers and consumers. It is a proven loss prevention technique that can form a key part of any condition-based predictive maintenance programme. It works by testing the condition and quality of the transformer insulating oil to provide information on the condition of the transformer, providing an early warning system for preventative action. Given the nature of the industries we serve, we have a 24-hour emergency support hotline for urgent customer testing requirements:
With the largest and most complete database of marine fuel quality results available in the market today, we provide our customers with a digital portfolio of standard and customised data & analytics services. Whether it is anticipating fuel quality trends before bunkering in a certain port or knowing which fuel suppliers deliver the highest quality fuel, we have a solution for you.
BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH US
